In a prestigious induction ceremony held on Thursday, Mrs. Sola Kosoko, General Manager of Lagos State Television, and her counterpart at Traffic Radio, Mr. Tayo Akanle, were formally welcomed as members of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB).

The event, which also marked the inauguration of the Lagos Chapter of the Society, witnessed the participation of distinguished broadcasters and stakeholders who emphasised the importance of upholding broadcasting ethics.

The Lagos State Televison General Manager has been active in practise for over 25 years. Joining this prestigious organisation added to her list of international recognition

At the event, Yemi Bamgbose, the National Coordinator of SNB, highlighted the historical significance of the association, founded in 1962 by late Ambassador Segun Olusola.

He emphasised that SNB serves as a professional body for broadcasters and stressed the continuous relevance of individuals in the broadcasting field. Dr. Bamgbose also outlined the key objectives of SNB, including training and retraining for its members.

The keynote speaker, Chairman/CEO of Channels Television, Mr. John Momoh, emphasised the powerful role of broadcasting in shaping societal norms. He acknowledged the challenges faced by broadcasting professionals, including digital disruptions, fake news, and misinformation. Momoh, represented by the Station’s AGM Operations, Mr. Kingsley Uranta, urged broadcasters to maintain high ethical standards while leveraging technological advancements to engage audiences.

The Lagos Coordinator of SNB, Mr. Deji Balogun, emphasised the need for regular meetings, organised programmes, sustained associations, and workshops to foster optimal growth within the broadcasting community. The oath of membership was administered to the new inductees by Barrister Muyiwa Odubela, followed by the presentation of certificates.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman-Dambos, Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON),  has congratulated the new inductees and expressed optimism that SNB would contribute to improving standards and ethics in broadcasting. Represented by the President of Silverbird Group, Mr. Guy Murray-Bruce, Dambos underscored the importance of welfare and the holistic development of broadcasters in the profession.

Dignitaries present at the event included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Olumide Sogunle; Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Segun Ogundeji; and Director of Social Media, Dr. Jide Atansuyi, among others.
