In an official announcement, the Federal Government has declared Monday and Tuesday, December 25 and 26, 2023, as well as Monday, January 1, 2024, as public holidays to observe the Christmas and New Year’s Day celebrations.
The declaration was made by the Hon. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended felicitations to Christians and all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, on these occasions.
Emphasizing the significance of the festive season, he urged Christians to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ, drawing inspiration from his teachings of humility, service, compassion, and patience.
The minister highlighted the critical importance of peace and security as prerequisites for economic development and prosperity.
He reassured the public that the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to implementing effective measures for the security of lives and property.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to maintain a heightened sense of security awareness and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest security agencies.
He underscored the need for discipline during the Yuletide season, emphasizing that it is crucial to protect lives and property within communities and the nation at large.
Looking ahead, the minister expressed optimism about the upcoming year, stating that the year 2024 holds promise with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu.
He encouraged all citizens to remain focused and contribute to making the coming year a better one for the nation.
