In a media interaction held in Abuja on Wednesday, Dr. Musa Adamu, the recently appointed Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), expressed his commitment to a fresh and proactive approach in tackling corruption, differing from his predecessors.
During the media parley with journalists, Adamu assured that he would set a precedent by personally appearing in court during the prosecution of individuals charged with corruption by the ICPC.
Emphasizing his intention to lead by example, he stated, “As the Chairman of ICPC, I will be appearing in court during prosecutions. If there’s a case I feel the need to go to the court, I will be there. This is one of the things I will do differently as the Chairman of ICPC.”
Additionally, Adamu disclosed plans to engage the Nigerian Law School (NLS) actively in the fight against corruption. This strategic collaboration aims to enhance legal expertise in the pursuit of anti-corruption efforts.
Addressing concerns about manpower within the ICPC, the Chairman pledged to address the issue by increasing the Commission’s staff strength. He emphasized the importance of close collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to mitigate the existing manpower deficit.
Adamu’s vision for a hands-on leadership role and collaborative strategies reflects a determined effort to strengthen the ICPC’s effectiveness in combating corruption in Nigeria.
