In a move to address the growing concerns of illegal migration and human trafficking in Anambra State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) have forged a strategic collaboration.
The Anambra State Commandant of NSCDC, Olatunde Maku, emphasized the need for joint efforts during a meeting with the new Comptroller of Immigration Service, Dr. G.O Nwoke, at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Awka. Maku assured continued support from NSCDC in the fight against irregular migration and other trans-border crimes.
Dr. G.O Nwoke, expressing gratitude for the warm reception, highlighted the significance of aligning with existing protocols and strengthening inter-agency synergy.
She stressed the importance of a united front among security agencies under the Ministry of Interior, acknowledging that no single agency can effectively combat the prevailing security challenges.
“The Immigration Service is the first point of contact for travelers worldwide. We should work as a team to identify and repatriate immigrants causing insecurity in our country,” said Dr. Nwoke, emphasizing the need for a collective approach to enhance security and safety in the state.
The collaborative efforts between NSCDC and NIS aim to improve border control measures, identify and repatriate illegal immigrants, and address the root causes of human trafficking. The agencies exchanged souvenirs, signed a courtesy visit register, and marked the occasion with a group photograph.
