Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Defence Headquarters has affirmed its commitment to collaborating with security agencies and stakeholders to confront and dismantle kidnapping syndicates operating in the region.
Edward Buba, the Director, Defence Media Operations, conveyed this assurance in the latest weekly report on the armed forces’ operations released on Friday in Abuja.
Acknowledging the profound impact of kidnappings on affected families and the palpable fear it has instilled among residents, Buba emphasized that the military is actively prioritizing areas with heightened kidnapping incidents.
Ground and air surveillance in these identified areas has been intensified, employing advanced technology to pinpoint the hideouts and enclaves of kidnapping gangs.
Buba stated, “While troops may not have all the answers at this moment, citizens can rest assured that the armed forces are working relentlessly to address this hurtful situation.” The commitment extends to synergizing efforts with other security services and stakeholders to gather more intelligence on kidnapping gangs, particularly in the FCT and its environs.
The report highlighted significant progress in clearing areas plagued by kidnapping activities. Troops have successfully secured regions including Kawu, Gaba, Deidei, Kubwa Hills, and Ushafa in the FCT. Operations extended to Garam, Jibi, and the back of Zuma Rock in Niger State, as well as Gidan Dogo and Kuyeri/Kuyeri Hills in Kaduna State.
Additionally, the Defence Headquarters disclosed the implementation of intensified night patrols in key areas such as Mpape, Kubwa, Lugbe, Pyakasa, Keti, Gbaupe, Gbaukuchi, and Airport Road. This comprehensive approach underscores the military’s commitment to addressing the complex challenge of kidnapping in the region.
