DHQ Refutes Allegations Of Bias Against Military Personnel In Mangu Security Operation

In a recent development, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) issued a press release addressing the circulation of a malicious video containing false accusations against military personnel involved in maintaining security in the Mangu general area of Plateau State.

The video, attributed to Reverend Timothy Daluk, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Mangu Chapter, has raised concerns and prompted an official response.

The video alleges bias and support for a specific group by the military, claims vehemently denied by the DHQ. The Defence Headquarters categorically stated that these accusations lack substance, branding them as baseless and malicious.

The backdrop of the controversy stems from a security breach in the Mangu municipal area on 23 January 2024, leading to the imposition of a 24-hour curfew by the Plateau state government. In response, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN were deployed to Mangu to enforce the curfew and contain the situation.

The military emphasizes that its personnel have conducted themselves professionally, adhering to rules of engagement, resulting in the arrest of criminals involved in looting and property destruction, along with the recovery of weapons.

Expressing deep concern, the DHQ highlighted the role of a religious leader, Reverend Timothy Daluk, in disseminating false information about the military. Despite the expectation of high moral standards from religious figures, the DHQ emphasized that the military remains neutral, professional, and committed to its constitutional duty of protecting citizens and property.

The press release issued a stern warning to individuals making baseless accusations against the military, asserting that the military will not be swayed by distractions. It called upon the public to support ongoing military operations aimed at addressing security challenges in the troubled areas of Plateau State.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Acting Director Defence Information, signed the press release, expressing gratitude to law-abiding citizens for their support and cooperation while assuring the public of the military’s unwavering commitment to preserving peace and security in the country.

The release concluded by cautioning that spreading falsehoods about the military would result in constitutional consequences, irrespective of the individual’s societal status.
