Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has affirmed his government’s dedication to providing unparalleled investments, funding, and infrastructure.

Speaking at the “TeachForNigeria: A Day with Mr. Governor” event held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Governor Sanwo-Olu outlined initiatives to enhance the education sector in collaboration with TeachForNigeria.

The event, coinciding with the International Day of Education under the theme ‘Learning for Lasting Peace,’ brought together members of the State Executive Council, Permanent Secretaries, top government officials, teachers, pupils, and students from various public schools, alongside key stakeholders in the education sector.

Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that the Lagos State Government is actively working with TeachForNigeria to establish a sustainable five-year program, aiming to domesticate the initiative under the banner of the “TeachForLagos” project.

TeachForNigeria, a non-profit organization, is focused on developing leaders committed to ending educational inequity.

Since 2020, the administration has recruited 275 Fellows through the TeachForNigeria initiative, ensuring that no child is left behind in receiving quality education.

These Fellows, predominantly young graduates, are currently teaching various core subjects in 205 schools across the state.

During an interactive session with TeachForNigeria Fellows, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended their commitment and acknowledged their contributions to the successes achieved in the education sector, both locally and internationally.

Folawe Omikunle, the Chief Executive Officer of TeachForNigeria, expressed optimism about the initiative’s future impact. Over the next decade, TeachForNigeria aims to positively influence one million children across Nigeria.

Omikunle highlighted significant academic improvements witnessed in classrooms where TeachForNigeria Fellows were placed, emphasizing the transformative nature of their efforts.

Looking ahead, Omikunle shared the organization’s vision of building a network of over 20,000 leaders across all geopolitical zones in Nigeria, impacting at least one million students annually.

The goal is to collaborate closely with local communities, and a key aspect of this vision involves placing at least 10 percent of these leaders in Lagos State.
