The latest surge of insecurity plaguing Abuja, armed bandits targeted a residence merely 200 meters from a military base in Pambara, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The incident occurred around 12:30 am on Thursday, resulting in the abduction of Aondo Ver, a director at the Federal Housing Authority.
The assailants reportedly infiltrated the property by breaching the perimeter fence. The Army, as of the current report, has not issued any official statement on the matter.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another kidnapping in Guita community, Chikakore, Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, where two sisters were abducted from their home.
Traditionally confined to the North-West, kidnapping has now spread to numerous states, including the FCT.
Perpetrators, seemingly well-coordinated, carry out their activities both during daylight hours and at night, often targeting children, youths, and families, sowing panic and distress among residents.
Recent weeks have witnessed a grim development as kidnappers dumped the remains of four victims near a former military checkpoint behind Idah Junction on the Bwari-Jere SCC Road in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.
Among the identified victims are a secondary school student, the daughter of the chief legal officer of the National University Commission (NUC), Folorunsho Ariyo, and a 500-level student of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar.
Folorunsho Ariyo and his family were abducted, while Nabeeha was taken alongside her father and five female siblings on January 9. In a breakthrough for one of the cases, the Nigerian Police Force announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, 28-year-old Bello Mohammed, during a hotel raid in Kaduna on January 20th.
Mohammed was found in possession of N2.25 million in cash, believed to be part of the ransom money connected to Nabeeha’s abduction and murder.
