The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has initiated a nationwide consultation with its members as it grapples with the prolonged delay in the implementation of agreements by the government.
Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the President of ASUU, announced the commencement of this consultation during a gathering at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State.
Expressing dismay over the failure of the government to honor agreements reached with the organized labor, especially ASUU, since the onset of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in May 2023, Professor Osodeke highlighted the dire consequences of the delay.
Despite the existence of a gentlemen’s agreement between the union and the Federal Government, no financial remittances have been disbursed to ASUU members, resulting in undue hardship for their families.
The nationwide consultation aims to garner input from ASUU branches across the country to determine the union’s next course of action. Scheduled throughout the month of February, these deliberations will culminate in a decision regarding the appropriate steps to address the ongoing challenges.
