In a devastating turn of events, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former House of Representatives representative for the Ika federal constituency of Delta State, has passed away.
Reports indicate that the tragic incident occurred during the Nigeria versus South Africa match in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Dr. Ojougboh was reportedly watching the match live when Nigeria was awarded a penalty in the 88th minute. Witnesses state that he shouted in response to the play and suddenly collapsed, succumbing to a massive heart attack. Despite efforts to revive him, he could not be saved.
The match itself was a tense affair, with Nigeria eventually emerging victorious over South Africa in a penalty shootout after a one-all draw during regular time and extra time.
This marked Nigeria’s 15th AFCON semi-final appearance, showcasing the team’s resilience despite facing challenges such as injuries to key players like Victor Osimhen and Zaidu Sanusi.
Dr. Cairo Ojougboh’s sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian political and sporting communities, as tributes pour in for the late lawmaker and fervent football enthusiast, Even from the President.

The deceased was the Akinuwa of Agbor Kingdom in Ika Local Government Area of Delta.
