In response to concerns over the soaring cost of cement, the Federal Government has announced its intention to address the issue head-on.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called for an urgent meeting with cement manufacturers to discuss the factors contributing to the recent price hikes.
According to a statement released by the Special Adviser to the Minister, Edward Uchenna Orji, Umahi expressed deep concern over the escalating prices of cement despite significant demand from road and housing contractors.
The meeting, scheduled for Monday, aims to delve into the underlying reasons behind the surge in cement prices.
Key industry players such as Dangote Plc, BUA Plc, and Larfarge, among others, have been summoned to participate in the crucial deliberations. The meeting will be held at the Federal Ministry of Works in Mabushi, Abuja.
Umahi stressed the need to address the disparity between the ex-factory price and the market price of cement. While acknowledging the challenges faced by manufacturers, he emphasised the importance of finding common ground to resolve the situation.
As stakeholders convene for this pivotal meeting, the Federal Government remains committed to mitigating the impact of rising cement prices and ensuring stability in the construction sector.
