Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced some of the plans put in place to mitigate the economic hardships affecting residents of the state.

During a live media chat ‘Sanwo Speaks’ held on Thursday, the governor spoke about  the implementation of a revised work schedule for civil servants. Employees ranging from levels 1 to 14 will now operate on a three-day work week, offering them increased flexibility while potentially reducing transportation expenses.

However, teachers will maintain their conventional five-day work schedule, with promised additional transportation assistance to facilitate their daily commute.

In response to concerns regarding access to essential commodities, Governor Sanwo-olu disclosed plans to establish four additional food hubs across strategic locations within the state.

Additionally, seven sites have been earmarked across various local government areas for the development of supplementary food hubs. These hubs aim to provide residents with easier access to food items at discounted prices, with purchases limited to a maximum value of N25,000.

The Lagos governor also announced the commencement of free child delivery services in the state’s general hospitals and secondary health facilities. Additionally, the government will distribute hypertension medications free of charge to those in need.

In terms of infrastructure development, the governor provided updates on the progress of Phase 2 construction of the Blue Line Rail. The project, extending from Mile 2 to Okoko, is underway, with ongoing work including the demolition and reconstruction of a bridge around the Maza Maza and Trade Fair areas.

In a bid to bolster local businesses and stimulate economic activity, the governor announced plans to open Sunday markets in at least 42 identified locations across Lagos State. These markets will offer discounted prices on food items, providing much-needed relief to residents amidst rising costs.

“We will open Sunday markets in at least 42 identified markets across Lagos State. You will be able to buy food items at a discounted price. You will only need to be able to buy items worth up to N25,000.”
