The Department of State Services (DSS) has released an important advise cautioning against large gatherings that could present dangers during the coming religious observances; Lent for Christians and Ramadan for Muslims.
According to DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya, it’s critical to be vigilant about potential threats in the public, especially improvised explosive devices (IEDs). He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or movements to the security agencies.
Felicitating with both Muslim and Christian communities, Afunanya stressed the significance of tolerance, compassion, and respect for one another during these sacred rites. He cautioned against economic exploitation, sabotage, or profiteering, calling for cooperation and conflict prevention among stakeholders.
“The DSS recognises the significance of these sacred rites and enjoins worshipers to promote understanding, compassion, and respect for one another during and after the exercises,” said Afunanya.
He also addressed the importance of upholding good standards and ensuring that religious duties are observed with ease and dignity. The media has been encouraged to foster informed and accurate engagements, while residents were urged to avoid crowded or suspicious areas and report any hostile activities to relevant security agencies.
“As we undertake these spiritual journeys in the Lenten and Ramadan periods, let us remember to love and share the values that unite us,” Afunanya remarked, urging a reaffirmation of commitment to mercy, tolerance, and being our brother’s keepers.
