The recent attack on soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Delta State has drawn strong condemnation from the pan-Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Describing the incident as a “tragic chapter stained in blood,” Ohanaeze Ndigbo mourned the loss of 17 soldiers, including Major DE Obi, an Igbo officer, who were on a peace mission to the Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
In a statement titled “Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s Unleashed Wrath: A Stern Revengeful Warning,” issued by its Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group expressed deep sorrow and unrelenting anger over the attack.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo called the perpetrators’ actions barbaric, satanic, and symbolic of cowardice, urging the people of Delta State to unite in ensuring swift justice for the killers.
The organization extended sympathies to the bereaved families and pledged to immortalize the legacy of Major DE Obi and the other fallen soldiers during the forthcoming 2024 Igbo Easter Retreat in Asaba.
However , Ohanaeze Ndigbo expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address the country’s economic and security challenges, urging political figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso to collaborate with Tinubu’s administration for national stability.
The Defence Headquarters revealed the identities of the slain soldiers on Monday, with the nation mourning the loss of these brave servicemen.
