Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia has put an end to the longstanding issue of teachers’ salaries being deducted in the state.
The board has initiated the automation of payment for teachers’ salaries, marking a significant step towards ensuring timely and full compensation for educators.
During a recent briefing at the board headquarters in Makurdi, Commissioner Prince Andy Uwouku affirmed this development, stating that the practice of arbitrarily deducting teachers’ salaries without valid reasons will no longer persist under the current administration.
He emphasised that efforts have been made to streamline the payment process, guaranteeing that salary disputes will become a thing of the past.
Furthermore, Uwouku addressed allegations of unilateral decision-making by the Executive Chairman, Mrs. Grace Adagba, asserting that such claims are unfounded and misrepresentative.
He clarified that since assuming office in December, the board has operated collaboratively, with regular meetings convened to ensure transparency and collective decision-making.
Highlighting the board’s initiatives, Uwouku mentioned the ongoing automation of teacher payroll systems and the comprehensive renovation of the board headquarters, all of which have received approval and support from board members.
He stressed the importance of unity among the board, secretary, and executive chairman in driving positive change within the education sector.
In addressing concerns about administrative efficiency and infrastructure development, Uwouku reiterated the board’s commitment to overcoming existing challenges and enhancing the quality of basic education in Benue State. He emphasised the collective effort to maintain cohesion and productivity within the board, discouraging any attempts to disrupt their progress.
