Amidst reports of unlawful fees collection in public schools, the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has issued a warning to teachers, declaring that those found guilty will face disciplinary action.
The Chairman of SUBEB, Nureni Adeniran, during the ongoing second term unified promotion examination for public primary schools stated the government’s commitment to eradicating unauthorized levies
Adeniran reiterated that any teacher caught coercing students to pay for examinations would be held accountable.
Speaking on the government’s proactive measures, Adeniran affirmed that the administration had taken responsibility for printing examination materials since its inception, ensuring adherence to the examination timetable across all schools in the state.
“The government abolished pupil fees due to the discovery of unauthorized levies imposed by some errant staff. Parents and guardians are urged to promptly report any instances of illegal fee collection to the board,” Adeniran stated.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has consistently fulfilled its obligations, including regular payments of the state counterpart fund with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). These funds are utilized by SUBEB to enhance infrastructure and personnel capacity within the education sector.
During examination monitoring visits, Adeniran commended the smooth conduct observed at various examination centers. Notable schools inspected included Community Basic School 1&2 in Olorunsogo, Community Primary School in Olosunde, Atolu Model School 1-4 in Oremeji, among others.
Continuing the oversight, schools visited on Thursday encompassed UAMC School in Eleja, Odo-Ona, AUD Primary School, UMC Basic School in Oke-Ado, Abiola Jacobs Schools 1,2,3, and Army Children School in Iwo-road.
