In a targeted operation conducted by the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Enugu State Police Command, two hoodlums were reportedly neutralized during a raid on a suspected hideout of IPOB/ESN criminals in Akwuke community, Enugu South Local Government Area.
According to Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the command, the raid, carried out at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, was part of proactive measures to prevent crime during the Easter period, as directed by Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu.
Encountering resistance from the criminals, who opened fire upon their arrival, the police operatives successfully subdued the attackers with their superior firepower.
As a result, two individuals were neutralised, while others managed to escape, sustaining gunshot wounds of varying severity.
Among the items recovered from the scene were an AK-47 rifle, a submachine gun (SMG), a stainless pump-action gun (PAG), along with ammunition, cartridges, and a Gideon New Testament bible used for concealing suspected charms.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the serial number of the recovered AK-47 had been tampered with, indicating the involvement of the criminals in multiple attacks and thefts of police firearms. Commissioner Uzuegbu applauded the operatives for their successful operation and reiterated the command’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements from Enugu State.
He urged citizens to continue supporting law enforcement efforts, particularly by reporting individuals with gunshot wounds to the police or medical facilities.
