The Kaduna State Government has disclosed that 551 communities spanning across 12 local government areas have fallen victim to the scourge of banditry, leading to the displacement of a staggering 289,375 individuals within the state.
During the commencement of palliative distribution in Maraban Kajuru, Dr. Usman Hayatu Mazadu, the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), laid bare these distressing statistics. He outlined the gravity of the situation, highlighting specific figures for affected communities and displaced persons in areas like Chikun and Birnin Gwari.
Dr. Mazadu underscored the pressing need for immediate relief efforts to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by these unfortunate circumstances.
He extended gratitude towards the governor for incorporating internally displaced persons into the N11.4 billion palliative programme and outlined plans to extend aid distribution to all affected communities across the identified 12 local governments in the forthcoming weeks.
The palliative distribution initiative was formally inaugurated by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, with Barrister James Kanyip, her chief of staff, representing her at the event.
Barrister Kanyip reiterated the state government’s unwavering commitment to combatting the menace of banditry and extending support to those adversely affected by the prevailing insecurity. He assured that Governor Sani’s administration will continue to prioritize assistance, relief, and solidarity for the affected communities.
