According to the State Department readout, the two diplomats addressed the volatile situation in the Middle East, with Secretary Blinken reiterating the U.S. position that an escalation by Iran would not benefit anyone in the region.
The call also touched on the ongoing crisis in Gaza, with the Secretary and Foreign Minister discussing ways to increase humanitarian assistance to the area, protect Palestinian civilians, and achieve an immediate ceasefire that secures the release of all hostages. Both officials agreed on the need to continue coordinating closely to advance a path to a two-state solution with security guarantees for Israel.
In addition, the Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed efforts to resume negotiations under the Jeddah platform, which aims to end the conflict in Sudan and prevent further civilian harm.
