Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, has refuted claims that Governor Usman Ododo assisted his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in evading arrest by security operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Reports had surfaced alleging that Governor Ododo facilitated Bello’s departure from his residence in Abuja, where the EFCC had laid siege in an attempt to effect an arrest.
However, Fanwo, who previously served under Bello’s administration, dismissed these claims in an interview with Channels TV.
According to Fanwo, Governor Ododo is committed to upholding the laws of the country and respecting legal processes. He emphasised that Ododo did not assist Bello in leaving his residence, and the EFCC’s allegations are unfounded and part of an organised misinformation campaign.
Fanwo pointed out that Bello is not evading arrest, citing a state high court injunction that protects his fundamental rights and prevents harassment by the anti-graft agency.
He criticised the EFCC’s assertions and questioned their certainty about Bello’s whereabouts.
The commissioner reiterated Governor Ododo’s commitment to being a law-abiding leader who respects the rule of law and the Constitution of Nigeria.
