The Federal Government has announced the imminent commencement of the demolition of buildings along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, with the operation set to kick off this Saturday.
This development comes as part of the extensive preparations for the construction of the 700-kilometer Lagos-Calabar coastal road, a project of significant national importance.
During a press briefing held in Lagos, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Korede Keisha, reiterated the government’s commitment to the timely execution of the project.
Keisha emphasized the urgency for residents whose properties fall within the project’s right of way to promptly address any necessary procedures required by the Ministry of Works.
“We’ve sent out demolition notices to as many as are within the right of way, and we are using this medium now to say that everyone that has any concern within that corridor and have been served, the secretariat is opened to them,” stated Keisha.
The demolition team is slated to commence the removal of marked properties starting Saturday morning, focusing initially on the first three kilometers of the project corridor.
Minister of Works Dave Umahi had previously disclosed that the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road is expected to span eight years, with each kilometer estimated to cost N4 billion.
The project, budgeted at N15 trillion, aims to connect Lagos to Cross River, traversing through several states including Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
