The Ghana Navy, alongside the U.S. Naval Forces Africa (NAVAF) and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Africa (MARFORAF), announces the hosting of a combined African Maritime Forces Summit (AMFS) and Naval Infantry Leaders Symposium-Africa (NILS-A) in Accra, Ghana.
Scheduled from April 30 to May 2, 2024, the event is poised to draw maritime and governmental leaders from across Africa and beyond, demonstrating a shared commitment to addressing regional challenges collectively.
Among the distinguished attendees are Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s Chief of the Naval Staff Rear Adm. Issah Adam Yakubu, Gen. Michael Langley, commander of U.S. Africa Command, Adm. Stuart Munsch, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples, Maj. Gen. Robert Sofge, commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe-Africa, and a host of military chiefs and governmental leaders from over 40 nations.
Panels and focused discussions during the event will delve into crucial topics such as maritime security and collaboration, aiming to enhance interoperability and strategic-level relationships across continents.
This landmark gathering marks the second edition of AMFS, following the inaugural summit held in Cabo Verde in March 2023.
Additionally, it represents the third iteration of NILS-A, with the previous session taking place in Dakar, Senegal, in 2022. Notably, AMFS/NILS-A 2024 will be the first instance where these forums are merged into a single, comprehensive event, signalling a significant step towards bolstering regional cooperation in addressing maritime threats.
