Mrs. Uchechi Kanu, the wife of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), expressed her gratitude to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah (Anambra South) for facilitating her recent visit to her husband, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his rendition from Kenya in 2021.
Following her visit to Kanu in April, Mrs. Kanu commended Senator Ubah for his assistance, acknowledging that her peace of mind had been restored since seeing her husband. She revealed that despite previous difficulties in accessing Kanu, Senator Ubah swiftly intervened to ensure her visitation rights were honored.
Addressing IPOB members via Radio in the United Kingdom on Sunday, Mrs. Kanu extended her gratitude to Senator Ubah and other Igbo elites who have silently advocated for her husband’s release. She emphasized that many politicians, governors, and political office holders have been actively working towards securing a roundtable discussion for Kanu’s freedom.
Senator Ubah confirmed the visit and his involvement in facilitating it, stating that upon learning of Mrs. Kanu’s challenges in visiting her husband, he intervened promptly. He recounted accompanying Mrs. Kanu and their lawyer, Ejiofor, during the visit to the DSS facility on April 16.
The visit serves as a significant development in the ongoing efforts to address Kanu’s detention, with Mrs. Kanu’s acknowledgment highlighting the collaborative efforts of concerned individuals towards seeking justice and ensuring the rights of detainees are upheld.
