Yoruba National Youths Firm On Autonomy Quest, Demand Action Against Fulani Herdsmen

A group called the Yoruba National Youths, both home and abroad, have staunchly reiterated their quest for Yoruba Nation autonomy.

In a joint statement signed by Prophet Ayodele Ologunloluwa and Comrade Oyegunle Oluwamayowa Omotoyole, the youth leaders declared the pursuit of Yoruba Nation autonomy as non-negotiable.

The youths condemned remarks made by Chief Gilbert Olokesusi, labeling them as reckless and stressing that there is no turning back on their autonomy demand. They criticized the Federal Government’s handling of security challenges in Yoruba land, giving an ultimatum for action against Fulani herdsmen’s atrocities by June 30th, 2024.

They opposed recent efforts by certain monarchs and stakeholders to disregard the aspirations of the Yoruba people regarding autonomy, labeling such actions as unacceptable. They particularly emphasized their exclusion from a recent conference meeting purportedly aimed at unity, asserting that their voices must be heard in discussions concerning the future of Yorubaland.

The statement stated instances of violence and disruption of economic activities by Hausa and Fulani hoodlums, stating the need for urgent action to safeguard Yoruba interests. Criticizing the perceived failure of law enforcement in addressing these challenges, the youths called for decisive measures to combat crime and ensure the safety of Yoruba communities.

Commending the support of figures like the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the youths urged leaders and groups like Afenifere not to impede the realization of Yoruba Nation autonomy. They stressed the urgency of the situation, citing ongoing insecurity and loss of lives in the region.
