The Osun axis of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Joint Campus Committee, has leveled allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, regarding the purported illegal abduction of students from the Federal Polytechnic in Ede, Osun State.
According to reports, operatives from the Ibadan Zonal office of the EFCC allegedly conducted a midnight raid on the students’ hostels in Ede, leading to the apprehension of an unspecified number of students who were subsequently taken to Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a strongly worded statement jointly signed by Taiwo Ogungbe and Farouq Afolabi, the Chairman and the General Secretary of NANS JCC, Osun axis, the union condemned the actions of the EFCC and demanded the immediate release of all the students arrested during the raid.
Expressing their discontent, the student body warned of potential repercussions should their demands not be met, implying possible protests or actions against the agency.
The statement highlighted the discrepancy between the EFCC’s assurances against nighttime operations and the alleged reality of such raids, emphasizing the distress caused to the students, particularly amid ongoing examinations.
Moreover, the Federal Polytechnic Ede’s management responded, stating that while there was indeed a sting operation by the EFCC in Owode-Ede area, they had not confirmed the identities of the students allegedly arrested.
The institution emphasized that it had not received any official communication from the EFCC regarding the purported arrests.
The management urged for calm among the polytechnic community and the public, assuring that they would provide updates as the situation unfolded.
