In preparation for the highly anticipated governorship election in Edo State slated for September 21, the Labour Party (LP) has revealed its strategic move by unveiling its campaign council.
Led by Rev. Sam Omede as Director-General and Dr Ehikioya Agboga as Deputy, the council aims to spearhead the party’s campaign efforts effectively.
Announced on Saturday at the party’s secretariat in Benin, the unveiling ceremony showcased a carefully selected team comprising notable figures like Sen. Ned Imasuen representing Edo South, and federal constituency representatives Esosa Iyawe and Murphy Osaro Omoruyi from Oredo and Egor/Ikpoba Okha respectively.
Mr Kelly Ogbaloi, the State Chairman of the LP, emphasized the significance of the upcoming election and the need for a robust campaign strategy. He highlighted the importance of leveraging the forthcoming voter registration exercise to expand the voter base and ensure broader participation in the electoral process.
Furthermore, Ogbaloi emphasized the party’s commitment to unity and inclusivity, stating, “A robust membership drive shall be launched to attract new members and reconcile with disenchanted individuals who have legitimate grievances.”
The LP also announced the suspension of Ken Omusi, the party’s youth leader, for engaging in anti-party activities. Dan Ero from Oredo local government was appointed as his replacement. Additionally, the party lifted the suspension on some members, excluding Ken Omusi, in a bid to foster unity within its ranks.
Ogbaloi disclosed plans to establish a reconciliation committee tasked with ensuring peace among aggrieved party members as the election draws closer.
