ELEGBELEYE VOWS TO TACKLE POOR OFFICIATING IN NIGERIAN FOOTBALL
In a passionate address, Gbenga Elegbeleye, the Chairman of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), expressed deep concern over poor officiating in football matches, labeling it as his greatest headache.
Elegbeleye emphasized the frustration and astonishment caused by certain officiating decisions, describing them as “heartbreaking and mind-blowing.” He pointed out instances where officiating errors were so apparent that even non-referees would question the calls made.
“This has become a major challenge,” he stated, highlighting the league’s ongoing efforts to address this issue comprehensively. Elegbeleye stressed the urgency of finding a permanent solution or significantly reducing these questionable officiating incidents.
Acknowledging the presence of excellent refereeing in some cases, Elegbeleye underscored the need to eliminate or minimize instances of poor officiating, which he referred to as “bad eggs” in the league.
