The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has apprehended 45 individuals allegedly involved in various illicit acts across the state. The suspects, accused of crimes ranging from kidnapping to vandalism, theft, burglary, and cultism, were paraded at the corps headquarters in Akure, the state capital.
Commander Adetunji Adeleye disclosed that the arrests were made within a span of two weeks of intensified operations by the corps. Among the apprehended, seven were already undergoing court proceedings, while the others were still under investigation.
Highlighting a notable incident, Adeleye recounted the capture of a criminal engaged in the vandalization of electrical transformers. The perpetrator suffered severe burns during an attempted theft, prompting swift action by the Amotekun operatives. Despite attempts to evade arrest, the suspect was tracked down, providing crucial information leading to the identification of nine accomplices, including their alleged godfather who remains at large.
Adeleye mentioned the re-apprehension of a suspected kidnapper, identified as Jubril, who had been previously released on bail only to be implicated in another kidnapping case shortly after.
The commander also shed light on the activities of criminals involved in the theft of electrical installations from uncompleted buildings, with the stolen materials being sold to a known kingpin. Additionally, cases of shoplifting, house burglary, and involvement in cultism were reported among the apprehended individuals.
Adeleye affirmed that thorough investigations were underway, and upon their conclusion, the suspects would be brought before the court to face prosecution.
