Cameroon’s Appointment of Marc Brys as Manager Suspended by Sports Tribunal
Cameroon’s appointment of Belgian Marc Brys as head coach of the national football team, the Indomitable Lions, has been suspended by the country’s top sports tribunal. This decision follows a petition from an amateur football club challenging the process.
The controversy began last month when the sports ministry named 61-year-old Brys as manager without consulting the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT). This unilateral decision sparked a dispute between the sports ministry and FECAFOOT.
In response to the appointment, FECAFOOT requested its president, Samuel Eto’o, to propose a national coach and other management staff for the national side within 72 hours, escalating the conflict with the sports ministry. Eto’o upheld Brys as head coach but appointed different assistants, as well as new technical, medical, and administrative staff.
The suspension of Brys’s appointment reflects ongoing tensions within Cameroon’s football administration. The sports tribunal’s decision aims to address procedural concerns raised by the petitioning club and ensure that the selection process aligns with national football governance protocols.
