President Tinubu Pledges Action On Education And Local Government Accountability In Meeting With Arewa Consultative Forum

In a crucial meeting with the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the State House, President Bola Tinubu declared the rising number of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria unacceptable.

Emphasising the importance of education in combating poverty, Tinubu stressed the need for collaborative efforts to enhance the education system.

Commending National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu for improvements in national security, Tinubu urged state governments to prioritize local community needs, emphasizing accountability and effectiveness in local government administrations. He reiterated his commitment to high performance, stating he would not hesitate to dismiss any underperforming ministers.

Tinubu highlighted the role of education in nation-building, describing the current state of out-of-school children as unacceptable.

“Education is a tool against poverty, and we must use it to improve people’s conditions,” he said, stressing the need to develop Nigeria’s educational backbone.

Addressing security, Tinubu pledged more investment in technology to ensure nationwide safety and prosperity. He emphasized infrastructure projects like the AKK pipeline, River Niger dredging, and improved port access, which he believes are vital for economic growth.

The President called for a reassessment of local government effectiveness, pointing out that local governments play a critical role in people’s daily lives. “We have 774 local government areas, but are they truly effective? We must recalibrate to meet today’s needs,” he said.

Tinubu also addressed economic development and livestock management, advocating for better collaboration between herders and state governments to enhance dairy farming. “We are ready to fund initiatives to help herders. If other countries can do it, so can we,” he asserted.

Appealing for national unity, Tinubu asked for continued support for his government. He directed the establishment of a committee, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to follow up on the issues discussed.

The ACF delegation, led by Chairman of the Board of Trustees Bashir Dalhatu, congratulated Tinubu on his first year in office and praised his achievements. Dalhatu highlighted Tinubu’s commitments to agriculture, education, and infrastructure development, expressing confidence in the president’s dedication to addressing Northern Nigeria’s economic and social challenges.

“We are greatly motivated and confident that President Tinubu will continue to support the North, striving to alleviate its economic and social pains,” Dalhatu said, underscoring the strong trust and confidence Northern Nigeria has in Tinubu’s leadership.
