On Thursday, the authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced that Eid-ul-Kabir will be celebrated on June 16.
This follows the official sighting of the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic Hijri calendar.
With the crescent sighting, Friday has been declared the first day of Dhul Hijjah, marking the beginning of the month in which the annual Hajj pilgrimage takes place.
The five-day spiritual exercise will commence on Friday, June 14, with Arafat Day, the pinnacle of Hajj, observed on June 15. Eid-ul-Kabir, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, will be celebrated on June 16.
