In a decisive operation, troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation UDO KA conducted a raid on an Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) camp in Igboro Forest, Arochukwu LGA, Abia State.
The raid, aimed at apprehending the killers of five soldiers at Obikabia junction in Aba last week, resulted in the deaths of six IPOB members.
According to a statement posted on social media platform X by the Nigerian Army on Sunday, the troops engaged in a fierce battle with IPOB militants during the operation.
“In order to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack on our troops at Aba last week, as well as to recover arms and ammunition from the Indigenous People of Biafra and its affiliate Eastern Security Network terrorist group, troops of Operation UDO KA conducted another successful clearance/raid operation to the IPOB/ESN Camp in Igboro Forest in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State yesterday,” the statement read.
The intelligence-led operation encountered improvised explosive devices along the route, resulting in a minor injury to one soldier. Despite these obstacles, the troops overpowered the IPOB militants with superior firepower, leading to the deaths of six members of the group. Other members escaped into nearby bushes, leaving blood stains along their escape routes.
During the raid, the soldiers recovered a cache of weapons, including three locally fabricated rocket-propelled grenade launchers and two locally fabricated artillery guns with tripods and bombs. Additional items recovered included Dane guns, Biafran flags, and vehicles, which were subsequently destroyed along with the camp.
The Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA has urged residents of Abia State to continue providing security forces with credible and timely information to help eliminate criminal activities in the state and the wider southeastern region.
