NiMet Predicts Nationwide Thunderstorms And Rain From Sunday To Tuesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thundery and rainy weather conditions from Sunday to Tuesday across Nigeria.

The weather outlook, released on Saturday in Abuja, details a series of thunderstorms and rain showers expected to affect various regions of the country over the three-day period.

On Sunday, morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Jigawa, Taraba, and Kaduna states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated in Zamfara, Kebbi, Kano, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Taraba states.

The central states, including Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benue, and Niger, will likely experience morning thunderstorms, with Kogi, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, and the FCT seeing storms later in the day. In the southern cities, morning rains are expected in parts of Imo, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Lagos states, followed by afternoon or evening thunderstorms over Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Lagos states.





For Monday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms over Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Kaduna states. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are likely in Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, Bauchi, and Kaduna states.

The central states, including Plateau, the FCT, and Nasarawa, will experience early morning thunderstorms, with afternoon and evening storms over Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the FCT.

In the southern states, morning rains are anticipated in Ekiti, Imo, and Cross River, with afternoon and evening rains in Abia, Imo, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers states.

On Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are expected over Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Bauchi, and Kaduna states. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms will likely affect most parts of the northern region. The central states, including the FCT, Benue,

Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger, are expected to see morning thunderstorms, with widespread storms in the afternoon and evening. In the southern states, cloudy skies with morning rains are anticipated in Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, followed by afternoon and evening rains across the entire region.

NiMet has advised the public to take necessary precautions as strong winds may accompany the thunderstorms. Airline operators are also urged to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet to ensure effective planning for their operation
