The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has called for the prioritization of girl child education, emphasizing its critical role in sustainable development across Nigeria.

During a ceremony on Friday marking International Women’s Day in Agbor, Delta State, the commission urged all levels of government to implement measures ensuring girls have access to quality education.

NDDC Chairman, Chiedu Ebie, represented by his Special Assistant, John Aleh, highlighted the importance of educating the girl child. “As a pivotal segment of the population, educating the girl child empowers women to succeed in all areas of life,” Aleh stated.

Women attending the event commended Ebie and the NDDC for their support in promoting women’s education and empowerment. Mrs. Ben Goziem, the guest speaker, addressed the theme “Girl Child Education,” asserting that women, as the heart of the nation, must be equipped with sound education.

“A good education is a foundation for the girl child. An educated woman possesses many attributes that will help her overcome tomorrow’s challenges,” Goziem remarked.

Mrs. Blessing Akachu, another speaker, stressed the diverse roles women play in society and the importance of maintaining their health. She advised women to engage in physical exercises, ensure adequate sleep, manage stress, undergo regular medical checkups, maintain personal hygiene, and consume a balanced diet. “Physical exercise is vital for our lives.

We must stay physically active to help our heart and brain function properly. Regular checkups for blood pressure, blood sugar, breast cancer, cholesterol, and other diseases are essential for prolonging life,” Akachu advised, emphasizing that women, as nation builders, must take their health seriously.

Mrs. Charity Abba, coordinator of the Abba Charity Foundation, called for the inclusion of more women in governmental decision-making roles, advocating for gender equality in leadership.

Prominent dignitaries at the event included the Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Hon. Doris Uboh; Mrs. Clara Ibude, wife of the former chairman of Ika South Local Government Council; Mrs. Rosemary Ogini, wife of the former vice-chairman of Ika South Local Government; alongside women from Ika Federal Constituency and NDDC staff.
