Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have dispersed a group of youths who attempted to break into a store along Zoo Road in the state capital.
The suspects tried to force entry into the two-story building housing Sadaraki Stores but were thwarted by the swift response of the police.
Before the arrival of security operatives, the suspects managed to destroy several windows of the building. Despite this incident, there has been low compliance with the ongoing protest against hunger in the ancient city, as many residents remain indoors.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, addressing the situation, revealed that he had received intelligence about plans by malicious individuals to hijack the protest. He invited genuine protesters to the Government House, Kano, while cautioning troublemakers to stay away from the state.
In a statement on Wednesday, the governor emphasized the importance of peaceful demonstrations and warned against actions that could be exploited by destructive agents. “Protests will not take us anywhere,” Yusuf stated, urging protesters to avoid behavior that could incite trouble.
“We have received credible intelligence that certain disgruntled individuals are recruiting thugs to incite trouble in the state,” he added. “I assure you that the government will not tolerate such actions. Instead, I extend an invitation to those who wish to demonstrate to come to the Government House, where I will be happy to listen to their grievances and engage in constructive dialogue.”
The governor also highlighted ongoing state government efforts to implement policies and programs aimed at enhancing the well-being of citizens, underscoring Kano’s potential and resources.
