Brighton Stun Everton as Fabian Hurzeler Begins Premier League Career with Resounding Victory.

Brighton’s young manager, Fabian Hurzeler, made a remarkable start to his Premier League career with an impressive victory over Everton, marking the beginning of what could be a difficult final season at Goodison Park for the home side. The historic venue, which has been Everton’s home since 1892, is set to be replaced by a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season.

At just 31 years old, Hurzeler made history as the Premier League’s youngest-ever permanent manager, and his Brighton team showed no mercy towards Everton in their opening match. Reflecting on the win, Hurzeler remained humble: “It is a very good feeling, but I don’t want to talk about myself so much. The players, club and staff deserve this win. They worked quite hard in pre-season and I am very proud and happy for them.”

The first half was fiercely contested, with Everton’s Jack Harrison having an early goal disallowed for offside, while Brighton’s Joao Pedro struck the post with a powerful low drive. Brighton eventually broke the deadlock when Kaoru Mitoma scored from close range, finishing off excellent work by debutant Yankuba Minteh, who had been linked with Everton before opting to join Brighton.

Controversy struck early in the second half when Everton had a penalty overturned despite Lewis Dunk appearing to trip Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Following this, Everton’s woes deepened as Idrissa Gueye’s misplaced pass in midfield led to a counter-attack, with Danny Welbeck expertly finishing from the edge of the box to double Brighton’s lead.

The situation worsened for Everton when Ashley Young was sent off for pulling back Japan international Mitoma as the last man. Brighton capitalised on their numerical advantage, with Simon Adingra scoring a third goal late on, sealing a disheartening defeat for Everton on their historic ground.

This commanding victory not only marks a dream debut for Hurzeler in the Premier League but also sets a worrying tone for Everton as they embark on their farewell season at Goodison Park.
