Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Tuesday, August 20, 2024, a public holiday in celebration of Isese Day.
The holiday, recognized for the observance of traditional religion, aligns with the United Nations’ designation of August 20 as World Traditional Religion Day.
The declaration, made through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Abdul-Rasheed Aderibigbe, continues a tradition in Osun State that dates back to 2012 when the administration of Ogbeni Raufu Aregbesola first adopted the day as Isese Day. This annual observance allows traditionalists across the state to commemorate their beliefs.
Governor Adeleke approved the holiday to enable the people of Osun to participate fully in the celebration. He urged traditionalists to use the occasion to pray for the prosperity of the state and for unity among different religious groups.
