Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed to a new three-year contract, extending his stay at the club until 2027, according to reports by the BBC. The Spaniard, whose current contract was set to expire at the end of the season, will now continue to lead the Gunners for the foreseeable future.
Arteta, who was appointed in December 2019 after serving as a coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, replaced fellow Spaniard Unai Emery as Arsenal’s boss. In his first season, he guided the club to FA Cup glory, securing his first major trophy as a manager in the 2019-2020 campaign.
Under Arteta’s leadership, Arsenal has consistently challenged for Premier League honours, finishing second to Manchester City in the last two seasons. The 42-year-old is determined to lead the North London side to their first top-flight title since their famous ‘Invincibles’ season in 2003-04.
A former Arsenal midfielder himself, Arteta made 150 appearances for the club and captained the side during his playing career. His deep connection to the Gunners, both as a player and a manager, has seen him become a key figure in the club’s efforts to return to the pinnacle of English football.
