NiMet Predicts Thunderstorms And Rain Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms and rain across Nigeria from Tuesday through Thursday.

According to the weather report released on Monday, thunderstorms are expected to affect several states during the morning hours on Tuesday. Areas including Bauchi, Kebbi, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Adamawa, and Kaduna are likely to experience thunderstorms. Later in the day, these conditions are expected to continue throughout the region.

In the North Central region, thunderstorms are forecasted over Kogi, Benue, Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Niger states in the morning. Thunderstorms are anticipated to persist in the FCT, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa states later in the day.

The southern region will witness moderate rains in Ebonyi, Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Rivers states in the morning. Intermittent rains are expected to cover the entire southern region as the day progresses.





On Wednesday, NiMet forecasts thunderstorms in the morning over Taraba, Adamawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, and Kaduna states, with more thunderstorms expected later in the day in Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kebbi states.

In the North Central region, thunderstorms are projected over the FCT, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara states in the morning, with thunderstorms expected to continue in Nasarawa, Kogi, FCT, Kwara, and Niger states into the afternoon and evening.

The southern region will experience thunderstorms in Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Edo, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states during the morning. Thunderstorms are expected to persist across the entire region later in the day.

On Thursday, thunderstorms are anticipated in Sokoto, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa states in the morning. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to affect Borno, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states, with additional thunderstorms in Nasarawa and the FCT. Isolated thunderstorms are forecasted for Osun, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, and Bayelsa states in the morning.

NiMet has issued a warning for high-risk urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rainfall. The agency advises residents to avoid flood-prone areas and to stay informed through weather updates.
