Postecoglou Laments Tottenham’s ‘Worst Defeat’ After Second-Half Collapse Against Brighton.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has described his team’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton as “probably the worst defeat since I’ve been here,” after his side squandered a 2-0 lead in their Premier League clash.

Spurs looked to be heading for a sixth consecutive victory in all competitions following first-half goals from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison. However, a second-half collapse saw Brighton fight back with three unanswered goals, leaving Postecoglou’s side empty-handed.

Reflecting on the match, Postecoglou expressed his frustration, stating: “It was disappointing and I’m absolutely gutted with that. It’s an unacceptable second half – we were nowhere near where we should be. Maybe we got carried away with how we were going.”

The Tottenham boss was particularly critical of his team’s lack of resilience in the second half, adding: “We kind of accepted our fate and it’s hard to understand as we’ve not done that while I’ve been here. We usually fight for everything, and when you don’t you pay a price.”

The defeat saw Spurs miss the chance to move up to sixth in the Premier League standings. They now sit in ninth place, with three wins, one draw, and three losses from seven matches this season.

Postecoglou acknowledged that his team’s mentality and focus may have faltered: “Maybe things were travelling on too smoothly. Football and life will trip you up if you get too far ahead of yourself, and that’s what it looked like in the second half.”

In conclusion, the Australian manager took full responsibility for the loss, calling it “as bad as it gets,” but vowed to fix the issues moving forward.
