Governor Sanwo-Olu Launches Commercial Operations Of Lagos Red Line.

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially announced the commencement of commercial operations for the Lagos Mass Rapid Transit (LMRT) Red Line. In a statement to the public, he revealed that passenger services will now run between Agbado and Oyingbo, marking a significant step in the state’s transportation agenda.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the Red Line is central to his administration’s vision of creating a seamlessly connected Lagos. “We’re on a mission to keep Lagos moving, and the Red Line is a key part of our vision to create a seamlessly connected city,” he said. This development comes less than two years after the launch of the state’s first rail system, the Blue Line.

Spanning 27 kilometres, the Red Line features eight stations located at Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju, and Agbado. The governor highlighted that the train service is expected to carry around 500,000 passengers daily as operations expand, providing Lagosians with an efficient and sustainable commuting option.

The daily schedule includes the first passenger service departing from Agbado at 6:00 AM, followed by a second train leaving Iju Station at 7:30 AM. Governor Sanwo-Olu reminded commuters to have their Cowry Cards ready for boarding.

Urging citizens to take pride in the new infrastructure, the governor stated, “Just as with the Blue Line and any other public infrastructure, remember that this project belongs to all of us. Let’s treat it with the respect it deserves.” He further warned against acts of vandalism, stressing that disruptions would not be tolerated, and urged Lagosians to ensure the safety and longevity of the trains.

Concluding his message, Governor Sanwo-Olu called for collective action, stating, “Together, let’s keep Lagos moving forward.”
