Kwara State Charges 200 For Environmental Law Violations During Sanitation Exercise.
At least 200 individuals in Kwara State were arrested and charged before mobile courts over breaches of the state’s environmental laws during a recent sanitation exercise. This enforcement action took place across the state on Saturday as part of efforts to ensure adherence to environmental regulations, according to a statement issued by Kamaldeen Aliagan, spokesperson for the Kwara State Ministry of Environment.
Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Musa Buge, expressed her dissatisfaction with the level of non-compliance in certain areas, especially commercial motor parks, warning residents and businesses to respect the monthly sanitation rules. Buge, represented by Permanent Secretary Abubakar Ayinla, highlighted the positive turnout of residents who observed the environmental exercise, noting a significant improvement in compliance compared to previous months.
She emphasised the importance of maintaining clean surroundings to prevent health hazards and attract potential investors, further urging residents to support a cleaner Kwara by following sanitation laws strictly. Additionally, Buge commended the contributions of security agencies and voluntary organisations, whose efforts, she said, played a critical role in ensuring a smooth sanitation exercise.
Buge concluded by encouraging Kwarans to continue their efforts in making the state a model of cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
