Premier League: Bournemouth Stun Manchester City With Historic Victory At Vitality Stadium

Bournemouth Stun Manchester City With Historic Victory At Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth celebrated a memorable evening as they claimed their first-ever win against Manchester City, triumphing 2-1 at Vitality Stadium. Goals from Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson sealed the Cherries’ hard-fought victory, lifting them to eighth place in the Premier League table.

Coming off a solid run with four points from their previous two matches against Aston Villa and Arsenal, Bournemouth started with pace and confidence. Within two minutes, Ederson was tested with a double save, blocking close-range efforts from Semenyo and Justin Kluivert.

The Cherries’ early energy paid off in the ninth minute when Milos Kerkez’s precise cut-back from the byline found Semenyo, who slotted the ball home to put the hosts ahead. City’s response was surprisingly muted, as they failed to register a single shot on target in a frustrating first half.

Bournemouth maintained their momentum in the second half and nearly doubled their advantage immediately, only for Ederson to block Evanilson’s attempt. However, Evanilson wouldn’t be denied a second time; moments later, he slid in to meet Kerkez’s low cross, sending the ball firmly into the bottom corner.

The hosts had a golden chance to make it three when Adam Smith found himself with an open goal after Marcus Tavernier’s shot hit the post, but he skied his effort over the bar.

City’s first attempt on target came in the 80th minute when Erling Haaland struggled to get any power on a volley, failing to trouble Mark Travers. Just two minutes later, Josko Gvardiol headed past Travers, giving City a lifeline, but the reigning champions were unable to find an equaliser.

The result sees City slip to second place behind Liverpool, who came from behind to beat Brighton. Meanwhile, Bournemouth continue their climb up the table, marking a historic night at the Vitality Stadium.
