Lagos Engages Local Councils On Purple Line Rail Project.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has taken a significant step forward in the development of the Purple Line rail project by engaging with local council officials to ensure community support and awareness.

On Tuesday, LAMATA’s Technical Adviser for Planning, Osa Konyeha, led discussions with key stakeholders, including Orile Agege LCDA Chairman Johnson Babatunde, Iba LCDA Chairman Yisa Abiola Jubril, and Secretary to Alimosho Local Government, Dare Ogunkoya, who represented Local Government Chairman Jelili Adewale Sulaimon.

The consultations aimed to inform local authorities about the upcoming Purple Line rail project, a 57-kilometre railway that will connect Redemption Camp to Volkswagen. The project will include 17 stations and integrate with Lagos’s existing rail network, further enhancing transportation within the state.

According to a statement by LAMATA on X, the engagement precedes a scoping exercise, a crucial step in the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) required before construction begins.

The local authorities expressed their commitment to supporting LAMATA in implementing the project, recognising its potential to improve transportation and boost economic development in their communities.

The Purple Line is part of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system, designed to ease congestion and provide residents with efficient and affordable transportation options. With local government backing, the project is expected to progress smoothly towards realisation.
