OSGF Distances Itself From Aide’s Corruption Investigation.

The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has officially distanced itself from an ongoing investigation into Andrew Torhile Uchi, the Personal Assistant to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Uchi was reportedly arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of bribery, money laundering, and corruption. He is accused of being involved in a N10 billion money laundering scheme and using stolen public funds to illegally acquire properties worth an estimated N6 billion across multiple Nigerian cities, including Abuja, Jos, Makurdi, Gboko, and Wannune in Tarka, Benue State.

Reports also suggest that efforts were made to secure an administrative bail for Uchi, but they were unsuccessful.

OSGF Denies Involvement

In response to the allegations, the OSGF, through its spokesperson, Segun Imohiosen, issued a statement on Monday affirming that the office is not connected to the alleged misconduct. The statement emphasised the government office’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity.

“The attention of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has been drawn to the ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) involving Hon. Andrew Torhile Uchi, Personal Assistant to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, over allegations of corruption, bribery, and money laundering.

“It is imperative to state categorically that the office leadership is not in any way involved in the alleged misconduct as it has always maintained a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity.

“We recognise the efforts of the EFCC on this matter to ensure that those found culpable are held accountable. However, we urge the public not to speculate or draw conclusions as investigations are still ongoing. The OSGF appreciates the understanding and support of the public on this matter,” the statement read.

While the EFCC continues its investigation, the OSGF has reaffirmed its stance against corruption and urged the public to await the outcome of the case before making assumptions.
