Police Launch Investigation Into Ikeja CCTV Shop Explosion Near Computer Village.

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation into an explosion that occurred on Thursday evening at a CCTV equipment shop located on Kodesho Street, close to the bustling Computer Village in Ikeja.

According to a statement released on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident was reported at approximately 6:35 p.m. Prompt response teams, including operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and other police formations, swiftly arrived at the scene to secure the area and ensure public safety.

“The scene of the explosion and adjoining areas were immediately taken over and cordoned off by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and conventional Lagos State Police Command teams,” Hundeyin stated.

EOD experts carried out a detailed sweep of the area to neutralise any secondary threats and assist in determining the exact cause of the explosion. Preliminary findings indicate that five individuals who were in or around the premises at the time sustained varying degrees of injuries. All have been transported to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and are currently receiving medical attention.

Shortly after the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, visited the site to assess the situation firsthand. He assured the public that the incident had been effectively contained and there was no ongoing threat to public safety.

“People can go about their lawful activities without fear,” CP Owohunwa said, urging residents to remain calm and cooperative as investigations continue.

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state and pledged to provide further updates as more information becomes available.

Residents have been encouraged to report any suspicious activity to authorities as efforts continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
