FG Reaffirms Commitment To Fairness In Appointments, Dismisses Claims Of Lopsidedness.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has firmly dismissed allegations of imbalance in the distribution of federal appointments, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to fairness, equity, and national unity.
In a statement released on Friday, Akume emphasised that all appointments made under President Bola Tinubu’s administration strictly adhere to the Federal Character Principle, as outlined in Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
This reassurance follows public debate sparked by Senator Ali Ndume of the North East geo-political zone, who accused the President of breaching legal provisions in his appointments. In response, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, released a detailed list on Thursday highlighting appointments made across the six geo-political zones.
Senator Akume clarified that the President remains a staunch believer in the unity of Nigeria and is guided by the principles of justice and inclusiveness in all his decisions.
“It is against this backdrop that the administration is dedicated to ensuring that all regions and demographics of the country are adequately represented in its institutions and agencies,” the SGF stated.
He urged Nigerians to disregard baseless claims and to seek information only from credible and official government sources. According to him, the Federal Government remains resolute in building a united, prosperous, and equitable nation, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
The statement serves to calm public concerns and reinforce the administration’s resolve to govern with transparency, inclusion, and national cohesion at its core.
