Hamzat Calls For Revamp Of Secondary Schools As Launchpad For Nigeria’s Future Leaders.

In a rousing call to action, Dr Obafemi Hamzat has emphasised the crucial role of secondary school education in shaping Nigeria’s future, urging all stakeholders to transform classrooms into breeding grounds for responsible leadership and national development.

Speaking recently on the importance of education in leadership formation, Hamzat, who is the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, asserted that no nation can rise above the quality of its teachers, nor can any generation exceed the leadership capacity of its youth. His remarks come at a time when education reform is increasingly recognised as central to Nigeria’s long-term prosperity.

“To make secondary schools a learning ground for future leaders, we must unite behind a vision that sees classrooms as the new chambers of leadership formation,” he said.

Hamzat’s call extends beyond government intervention. He urged the private sector, development partners, community leaders, parents, and alumni associations to actively support and invest in building a robust and visionary secondary school system.

“Let us commit ourselves—educators, parents, governments, private sector actors, and alumni—to make our secondary schools the launchpad of Nigeria’s renaissance,” he added.

His appeal underscores the growing consensus that strengthening secondary education is vital for producing capable, ethical, and innovative leaders who can drive Nigeria’s development. With increasing global competition and domestic challenges, stakeholders say it is imperative to equip Nigerian youth with not just academic knowledge, but also leadership skills, critical thinking, and civic responsibility.

Education analysts have welcomed Hamzat’s remarks, noting that a well-resourced and visionary school system will not only nurture talent but also inspire the next generation of problem-solvers, entrepreneurs, and change-makers.

As the country looks to its future, the message is clear: the transformation Nigeria seeks must begin in the classroom.
