Lagos State Bolsters Community Security With Recruitment Of Over 1,000 LNSC Officers.

The Lagos State Government has significantly strengthened its community-based security framework by recruiting over 1,000 new officers into the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), a move hailed as a pivotal step towards enhancing grassroots safety across the state. This development was announced by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr Olugbenga Oyerinde, during the 2025 Annual Ministerial Press Briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

The recruitment is part of a broader initiative under the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to modernise and expand the operational capacity of the LNSC, a uniformed security agency established in 2016 by the Lagos State House of Assembly. The corps, which operates across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), is designed to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies through intelligence gathering and community policing.

“In the past year, we have deepened our reach across communities by recruiting over 1,000 officers. This is more than just a number; it reflects our commitment to ensuring every ward in Lagos feels the presence of security and order,” Oyerinde stated. He emphasised that the initiative aligns with the state’s goal of addressing evolving urban security challenges and fostering a safer environment for residents to engage in social and economic activities without fear.

Beyond increasing manpower, the Lagos State Government has introduced specialised units within the LNSC to tackle diverse and emerging threats. These include Marine Patrol, Forest Rangers, Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence, Forensics, Crime Scene Management, Paramedics, and Crowd Control units. To enhance operational efficiency, the state has also equipped the corps with modern mobility assets, including patrol bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, and vehicles, ensuring faster response times across Lagos.

The LNSC, under the leadership of General Manager Prince (Dr) Ifalade Ajasa Oyekan, employs indigenous locals from various LGAs and LCDAs, leveraging their local knowledge for effective grassroots intelligence gathering. This strategic approach has been lauded for fostering community trust and improving the agency’s ability to prevent crime and vandalism while supporting the police in maintaining law and order.

The recruitment process, which is free of charge, requires applicants to meet stringent criteria, including Nigerian citizenship, possession of a valid Lagos State Residents Registration (LASRRA) card, a National Identification Number (NIN), and a minimum of five credits in WASSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB, including English and Mathematics. Candidates must also be aged between 17 and 40, be medically and physically fit, and have no significant physical impairments, such as defective eyesight or limb amputations. Additional skills, such as the ability to swim or speak multiple native languages, are considered advantageous.

Interested applicants are directed to the official LNSC recruitment portal at lnsa.lg.gov.ng, where they must submit scanned copies of their O’Level results and complete an online application form. Successful candidates are contacted via email and phone for physical screening at designated centres, with further updates provided through official channels.

The Lagos State Government has reiterated that the LNSC is not in competition with the Nigeria Police Force but serves as a complementary force to ensure a safer and more secure Lagos. Residents have welcomed the initiative, with many expressing optimism that the expanded corps will curb crime and enhance community safety.

For further inquiries or technical assistance with the application process, candidates can contact the LNSC via phone at 09135000251 or 09135000252 or email info@lnsa.lg.gov.ng. The state government encourages eligible Lagosians to seize this opportunity to contribute to a safer state while warning against sharing sensitive information, such as bank details, during the recruitment process.

This landmark recruitment underscores Lagos State’s unwavering commitment to prioritising the security of lives and property, ensuring that every community feels protected and empowered.
