President Tinubu Appoints 36 New Members To Governing Boards Of Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of 36 individuals to fill vacant positions on the governing boards of various federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country. The appointments, announced on Wednesday, reflect a commitment to enhancing academic leadership and promoting regional diversity in Nigeria’s higher education sector.

The newly appointed members, drawn from various states and geopolitical zones, will serve on the governing councils of 22 federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The institutions span a wide range of disciplines, including aviation, health sciences, agriculture, technology, and education, underscoring the administration’s focus on advancing specialised and technical education.

Among the notable appointments are:

African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja: Hon. Chidi Nwogu (Imo State)

University of Jos, Plateau State: Dr Folashade Mulikat Kareem (Kwara State)

Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom State: Dipe Olusina Adeniyi (Lagos State)

Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State: Chijioke Paul Okeifufe (Enugu State)

Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila Orangun, Osun State: Mr Muyideen Balogun (Ogun State)

Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State: Dr Francis Ogbise (Bayelsa State)

Federal College of Education, Gwoza, Borno State: Ibrahim Abba Geidam (Yobe State)

Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, Oyo State: Hon. Sani M. Anka (Zamfara State)

The full list of appointees includes representatives from states such as Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Taraba, Sokoto, and Katsina, ensuring a balanced representation across Nigeria’s regions. The appointees bring a wealth of experience from diverse fields, including education, law, public administration, and community leadership, which is expected to enrich the strategic direction of these institutions.

A statement from the Presidency highlighted that the appointments aim to strengthen the governance structures of these institutions, ensuring they remain centres of excellence for learning, research, and innovation. The new board members are tasked with addressing critical challenges such as funding, infrastructure development, and improving academic standards.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the appointments, noting that the inclusion of experienced professionals and regional representatives will foster inclusivity and drive progress in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector. The move is seen as part of President Tinubu’s broader agenda to reform and revitalise the country’s education system.

The new board members are expected to assume their roles immediately, working alongside existing council members to advance the missions of their respective institutions. The Presidency urged the appointees to uphold transparency, accountability, and dedication in their service to Nigeria’s academic community.
